"Stepping out of the darkness and into the light is a slow process like pealing layers of an onion."
- Deb Crutcher

Bio
Deb Crutcher was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, September 5th, a Virgo. Soon after, her family moved to a resort area by the large man-made Kentucky Lake. After graduating from Murray State University with a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, she worked mainly with geriatrics in the medical field for over 20 years.
Her passion for water has influenced her activities, and residency throughout her life. Swimming, water skiing, paddleboarding and scuba diving have all been a part of her active life taking her to different areas of the world. She has lived in Florida since 1984. After publishing Living on the Edge, a collection of her poems, which was written while living in the keys and healing from a divorce, she participated in the Poetry of the Keys program with readings throughout the keys.
She vowed to spend her 60th birthday in France, which stretched into a wonderful year in Provence. In France, she was active in writing groups and the monthly poetry corner held at the Book in Bar international bookstore. This is when she first starting practicing the internal martial art of qigong.
Deb was a member of the Key West Poetry Society, where she was one of the monthly key presenters. Many of her poems have been published in various anthologies and newspapers.
The Florida Writers Association recognized her poem, "Rise Sister Rise", as a semi-finalist in 2023. In 2024, FWA chose her poem, "Did I Know Love", for publication. Her story "Baby Maybe" was published in the anthology, Three Minus One, by She Writes Publishing.
She mainly writes creative non-fiction and poetry. Not only is she a member of the Florida Writers Association, but she is active in the Winter Haven Writers group and the Authors Master Mind group, which meets in Lake Wales. She also attends Miss Sharon Quinn’s weekly sisterhood groups and schedules special one-on-one sessions as needed.
Deb and her cat, Zoe, currently live in Central Florida, the water ski capital of the world, Winter Haven. When she isn’t writing, you will find her walking in nearby woods or parks, reading, working thousand-piece jigsaw puzzles or obsessing over her numerous plants. One of her passions is baking goodies for her friends and neighbors.
Her thirst for spirituality has spanned many years as she says, peeling back the layers to get to the core. Her new book, Finding My Voice, a Spiritual Journey is part self-help, part memoir. Deb’s goal with her book is to extend this message to women of all ages. Helping others to gain clarity and increase their vibrational energy level.
She is anxiously awaiting the publication of her new book. Her desire is to spread the word of spirituality through speaking engagements to women’s groups. She wants to have interactive discussions about the roller-coaster effects and how to maneuver through life’s challenges while maintaining a spiritual life. Self-love is the key, says Deb. “We as healers and caregivers often neglect our own needs while tending to others. It’s time to turn that care and healing inward.”
Deb's Work

Finding My Voice - A Spiritual Journey
Deb ran through life, rushing ahead, jumping off cliffs without looking. In her efforts to please everyone, she ignored her needs and pushed resentment, fear, and regrets deep inside, where she locked them up. But nothing stays hidden forever.
For anyone interested in a spiritual journey, this is a blend of self-help and some of Deb's memoir. Her story tells how she found the courage, determination, and guidance to peel back the layers of spirituality, one by one. She explains how she captured her fleeting but true voice and never let it disappear.
Finding My Voice - A Spiritual Journey is a valuable resource filled with detailed techniques, wisdom, and guidance for anyone who is new or experienced on the path to a spiritual lifestyle.

A Lobster Tale

In “A Lobster Tale,” Deb Crutcher recounts a harrowing diving experience during lobster season in South Florida. While attempting to catch a lobster, she became separated from her husband and son due to strong currents, forcing her to rely on her survival instincts to return to the boat. The incident taught them the vital lesson never to dive without someone remaining at the helm.
This poem was published in the Florida Writers Association Collection, Volume 16.
Did I Know Love
Who looks outside, dreams
Who looks inside, awakes
...Carl Jung
Did a caterpillar know
she would soon be an
emerging butterfly
flitting, floating from
nectar to sweeter nectar?
Did a thorny rose know
its tiny velvet bud would
burst with nature's beauty
and pure essence
until it bloomed?
Did a sculptor know
his hardened hands
and diligent laboring
would reveal a masterpiece
until he shaped his stone?
Did I know that
decades of internal conflict
failed attempts at chasing love
striving for perfection
would bring no lasting peace?
Did I know love, self-love
until I journeyed within
witnessed my truest heart
unfurled my wings
and just let go?

PAST LIFE
By Deb Crutcher ©2026
Standing in the middle of a dingy, dark theatre alone, I asked myself, “How did I get here?” A blinding light appeared in the center of the movie screen, framed by burgundy velvet curtains. Looking down at my feet, I was shocked to see big, brown men’s shoes. Shoes I called clodhoppers. I was wearing a long, raggedy trench coat. What the . . . I am a man.
The theatre went dark immediately. Frightened, I searched for the door and ran. Once outside, I floated above the ground in total darkness.
***
That was not a dream. It was how my first past-life regression session began. People told me I was “an old soul,” someone who seemed wiser than their years. It indicates that your soul has been on this Earth before. Some people with old souls feel as if they don’t fit in. At other times, a new environment may seem eerily familiar. There have been times when I instantly connected with someone I had never met, which sparked the idea that perhaps this person and I had traveled together in past lives.
Have you ever been to a new place and felt you’d been there before? Some call these synchronicities. It is the concept that our soul lives on in multiple lifetimes. Many believe that traumas, memories, and feelings pass from one life to another. Past life regression therapy can help release those blocked emotions—the demons you pushed down and locked up.
Always curious about past lives and their impact on us today, I read that when we experience déjà vu, it’s our spirit guides or ancestors giving us signs that we are on the right path. Our guides help us if we open our hearts and minds and listen.
Alana, an employee of Moon Dreamz, a metaphysical store, was my guide for this session. She recently relocated from Hawaii to Florida. Her beautiful Polynesian skin and light brown hair with golden highlights lit up her glowing smile, emitting a joyful radiance.
Alana placed me in a state of light hypnosis while I lay on a comfortable, warm bed. Her soft, firm voice relaxed me as she instructed me to stare at an overhead light. Though in a light trance, I was still aware of my surroundings and could speak.
After the movie theater experience, my spiritual leader counted one – two – three and snapped her fingers. Now, there were waves. I was alone in a small cabin cruiser-sized boat in the middle of a dark sea. The derelict boat was stripped of lights and instruments and had no motor. I looked over the gunnel, and one bright light shone from a deep hole in the ocean floor. At first, I was scared, then curious, as if I could see all the way through to the other side of the planet.
The light slowly faded to a dot, then disappeared, leaving me in darkness. I slid to the floor, wrapped in blackness and silence. “I’m dying!” I cried. “I am dying now.” My sobbing was uncontrollable.
Alana told me to take deep breaths and relaxed me back into my trance with one–two—three—snap.
I instantly changed from hysterically crying to laughing and smiling. “Where are you now?” Alana asked. “What’s so funny?’
“I’m flying. It’s blissful. Dense green trees line both sides of a winding stream. There’s no civilization in this rich forest. Flying is so freeing. Wait, wait, I’m coming down.”
